Romania: Proposed Route

When first planning our Balkan adventure, Romania was left off the list. We honestly did not know much about this country at all save for it is the birthplace of Dracula and gypsies. Upon further research, the promise of beautiful planes and picturesque scenery around the Danube made us change our minds and we steered our google map line across the border of Bulgaria.

Our route has us beginning on the Danube in Giurgiu after crossing over from Russe, Bulgaria. To be honest, this section of the trip doesn’t appear to look that difficult or daunting in the slightest (let’s hope I don’t eat those words!). We essentially follow the Danube west on our way to Serbia. On the way we pass through the towns of Zimnicea, Bechet, and into Calafat where the river turns north. After passing Calafat, we can turn west with the river towards Balata Verde and cross the Iron Gate 2 damn if we choose a quick crossing to Serbia. Our proposed route suggests we continue north into Drobeta-Turnu Severin and then cross into Serbia over the Iron Gate 1 damn. Either way, to Serbia we ride!
